Marangu route Overview
The Marangu Route is also known as the “Coca Cola” or “tourist” route. 6 Days Marangu Route is the easiest and shortest route to the summit. This is also the only route offers accommodation in huts at every point you spend your night with solar lights and comfortable beds. Bathrooms and running water are available at the two lower huts
6 Days Mount Kilimanjaro – Marangu Route Itinerary
Day 1: Marangu Gate – Mandara Hut
Transfer to Marangu Gate (1,870 m) for registration, then trek through lush rainforest to Mandara Hut (2,700 m).
Hiking time: 4–5 hours
Dinner and overnight at Mandara Hut.
Day 2: Mandara Hut – Horombo Hut
Leave the rainforest behind and trek through moorland vegetation with views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks, arriving at Horombo Hut (3,720 m).
Hiking time: 5–6 hours
Dinner and overnight at Horombo Hut.
Day 3: Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut
A full day for acclimatization. Optional hike toward Zebra Rocks or the lower slopes of Mawenzi Peak before returning to Horombo Hut.
Hiking time: 3–4 hours (optional)
Dinner and overnight at Horombo Hut.
Day 4: Horombo Hut – Kibo Hut
Trek across the alpine desert known as the Saddle, between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks, to reach Kibo Hut (4,703 m).
Hiking time: 5–6 hours
Early dinner and rest before the summit attempt.
Day 5: Summit Attempt – Uhuru Peak – Horombo Hut
Begin the summit push around midnight, reaching Gilman’s Point (5,681 m) at sunrise, then continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). Descend back to Kibo Hut for rest, then continue to Horombo Hut.
Hiking time: 12–15 hours
Dinner and overnight at Horombo Hut.
Day 6: Horombo Hut – Marangu Gate
Descend through moorland and rainforest to Marangu Gate. Receive your summit certificates and transfer back to your hotel.
Hiking time: 5–6 hours
End of your Kilimanjaro adventure.
