6 Days Mount Kilimanjaro – Umbwe Route Itinerary
Day 1: Umbwe Gate – Umbwe Cave Camp
Transfer to Umbwe Gate (1,800 m) for registration. Begin steep ascent through rainforest to Umbwe Cave Camp (2,900 m).
Hiking time: 4–6 hours
Dinner and overnight at Umbwe Cave Camp.
Day 2: Umbwe Cave Camp – Barranco Camp
Trek through moorland and rocky terrain to Barranco Camp (3,950 m). Optional climb of the Barranco Wall for acclimatization.
Hiking time: 5–6 hours
Dinner and overnight at Barranco Camp.
Day 3: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp
Ascend the Barranco Wall and continue across alpine desert to Karanga Camp (4,000 m). Light hikes for acclimatization.
Hiking time: 4–5 hours
Dinner and overnight at Karanga Camp.
Day 4: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp
Trek across alpine desert to Barafu Camp (4,600 m). Prepare for the midnight summit attempt.
Hiking time: 4–5 hours
Dinner and overnight at Barafu Camp.
Day 5: Summit Attempt – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp
Begin summit ascent around midnight. Reach Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) at sunrise. Descend to Mweka Camp (3,100 m) for overnight rest.
Hiking time: 12–15 hours
Dinner and overnight at Mweka Camp.
Day 6: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate
Descend through rainforest to Mweka Gate (1,640 m). Receive summit certificates and transfer back to your hotel.
Hiking time: 3–4 hours
End of your Mount Kilimanjaro adventure.
