Embark on a captivating 5-day adventure to the Usambara Mountains, one of Tanzania’s most scenic and culturally rich regions. This immersive journey offers breathtaking mountain landscapes, lush rainforests, diverse wildlife, and unforgettable cultural experiences with local communities, all explored through guided hikes and authentic village encounters.

5 Days Usambara Mountains Hiking Itinerary

Day 1: Lushoto – Magamba Forest – Rangwi (6–7 hrs hike)

The tour starts with a walk to the Magamba Rainforest, home to black-and-white colobus monkeys. After enjoying the forest, we take public transport to Rangwi Convent for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Rangwi – Mtae (5 hrs hike)

After breakfast, walk through valleys and sloping hills of the inner Usambara Mountains to Mtae, a famous World Viewpoint offering spectacular views of the Maasai plains, Mkomazi National Park, Tsavo West (Kenya), and on clear days, Mount Kilimanjaro.

Along the way, pass vegetable farms, eucalyptus trees, and banana plantations while learning about the traditional lifestyle of the Washambaa people.

Day 3: Walking Around Mtae (6 hrs hike)

Enjoy a full-day walk around Mtae, visiting the World Viewpoint and surrounding areas with breathtaking scenery. After lunch, hike through traditional villages back to Magumba Cliff to enjoy a beautiful sunset.

Day 4: Mtae – Irente Viewpoint – Lushoto (5 hrs hike)

After breakfast, drive back to Lushoto and continue on foot through traditional villages to the famous Irente Viewpoint at 1,500 m above sea level, offering panoramic views over the Maasai plains.

Day 5: Kambe Peak (5–6 hrs hike)

Hike to the village of Kambe and climb Kambe Peak (1,800 m). Along the way, see a traditional sugarcane squeezing machine and enjoy fresh sugarcane juice made locally.

In the evening, return to the Irente Viewpoint to enjoy the sunset.
