Marangu route Overview
The Marangu Route is also known as the “Coca Cola” or “tourist” route. It is the easiest and shortest route to the summit. 5 Days Marangu Route is the only route offers accommodation in huts at every point you spend your night with solar lights and comfortable beds. Bathrooms and running water are available at the two lower huts.
5 Days Mount Kilimanjaro – Marangu Route Itinerary
Day 1: Marangu Gate – Mandara Hut
After breakfast, transfer to Marangu Gate (1,870m) for registration. Begin your trek through lush rainforest to Mandara Hut (2,700m).
Distance: ~8 km | Hiking time: 4–5 hours Dinner and overnight at Mandara Hut.
Day 2: Mandara Hut – Horombo Hut
Trek out of the rainforest into moorland vegetation, enjoying views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks as you ascend to Horombo Hut (3,720m).
Distance: ~12 km | Hiking time: 6–7 hours Dinner and overnight at Horombo Hut.
Day 3: Horombo Hut – Kibo Hut
Continue through the alpine desert zone, crossing the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo to reach Kibo Hut (4,700m).
Distance: ~10 km | Hiking time: 6–8 hours Early dinner and rest before midnight summit attempt.
Day 4: Summit Attempt – Uhuru Peak – Horombo Hut
Around midnight, begin the challenging ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. Celebrate your achievement before descending back to Horombo Hut.
Hiking time: 10–14 hours (up & down) Dinner and overnight at Horombo Hut.
Day 5: Horombo Hut – Marangu Gate
Descend through moorland and rainforest back to Marangu Gate. Receive your summit certificates and transfer back to your hotel.
Distance: ~20 km | Hiking time: 5–6 hours End of your Kilimanjaro adventure.
